The 904: Reflection Paper -- Crime

In 2005 Jacksonville picked up the title of â€Å"Florida's homicide capital† (Florida Times-Union, 2005; Murphy, 2005). As indicated by the aftereffects of â€Å"The 904 Project† in 2011 Jacksonville despite everything holds the title. As per Sherriff Rutherford during the opportunity the examination came out Jacksonville has shed that title (Patterson, 2011). Does Jacksonville hold the title or not? It relies upon who you inquire. In pondering what the 904 Project has brought us it is imperative to not just gander at the consequences of the investigation, yet additionally what we definitely think about media and the criminal equity framework and what the examination may have accidentally outlined about Jacksonville’s media, it’s pioneers, and the wrongdoing issue itself. What examination shows is that media and wrongdoing are interwoven and that there is an impact on the criminal equity framework and its approaches. Surette examines the two fundamentals concerning criminal equity and the media. The first is the â€Å"backwards law† which expresses that anything the media depicts is in actuality something contrary to what is truly occurring (2010, p. 182). He proceeds to clarify that this mutilation is because of how news is introduced in either a roundabout configuration, the accompanying of a solitary episode or case, or topical arrangement, a streaming of patterns, and how the two organizations just show a little division of the truth (p. 183). The other is the â€Å"rule of inborn justice.† Surette characterizes inherent equity as â€Å"the conviction that an awesome higher force will intercede, and uncover and rebuff the blameworthy while ensuring the innocent† (p. 186). He contends that the media unendingly outlines that gui ltiness is characteristic and that society looks for inalienable equity and supports wrongdoing warriors, for example, police, in helping battle the issue of wrongdoing (pp. 186-187). How Does Temperature Affect Lipase

How does temperature influence the pace of response for Lipase? As the temperature increments, so will the pace of chemical response. Be that as it may, as the temperature surpasses the ideal the pace of response will diminish. I foresee that at temperatures above 70Â °C the protein lipase will get denatured and at temperatures beneath 10Â °C the chemical will get latent. Since lipase works inside the human body I’d likewise anticipate that its ideal temperature would associate with human internal heat level which is roughly 37Â °C.I foresee that before the ideal temperature the rates will progressively increment and going before the ideal there will be an uncommon diminishing in rate until the chemical is denatured. I foresee that the pace of protein movement at 45Â °C will be a large portion of that of 30Â °C. I anticipate that the pace of chemical movement at 45Â °C will be a large portion of that of 30Â °C. Chart kindness of: http://www. rsc. organization/Education/ Teachers/Resources/cfb/chemicals. htm Diagram graciousness of: http://www. rsc. organization/Education/Teachers/Resources/cfb/compounds. htmIn my controlled appraisal I will examine the action of lipase on milk fat at different temperatures with the goal that I would then be able to locate an exact temperature concerning when the compound works at its ideal; when it gets dormant and when it denatures. To discover when the chemical denatures is to discover when the obligations of this protein crumble and hereafter cripple the compound from being of any further use. At the point when these bonds break, the protein begins to unfurl and loses a few its properties. For instance, a denatured protein normally turns out to be less dissolvable. As a chemical, it will lose its capacity to work as a catalyst. If the pressure that is causing the denaturation proceeds, different changes may happen. Since the typical structure of the protein is gone, new bonds might be framed, giving it an alterna te shape. The bonds broken in a denatured protein is that of which interfaces the polymers to shape the amino acids. This implies if lipase somehow managed to denature at the higher temperatures it will at that point cause dormancy in separating the fat of the milk subsequently leaving the unaltered. In this examination, be that as it may, there are various factors with regards to what can influence the examinations results.First of all, the temperature of the room can assume a job in modifying the outcomes as it can change the temperature of both the arrangement and lipase. In addition if one somehow happened to move the arrangement or lipase to another piece of the room, or to complete the examination on an alternate day, the temperature encompassing the arrangement and lipase will change and hereafter change the temperature of the arrangement and lipase. Besides, if the temperature of the water shower isn’t unequivocally the temperature it should be at that point, true to form, would change.Thirdly, the age of the substance can influence the centralization of the substrates which would then diminish the pace of response with lipase. At long last, there is the factor of human mistake, as we may not be equipped for making immaculate estimations reliably the measures of every part will definitely change, which would as a result change the outcomes. Of this examination our autonomous variable will be the pace of response, which we will gauge by timing to what extent it would take for the answer for turn white in the wake of having the lipase poured in.Our subordinate variable will be the time it takes for the answer for turn pink in the wake of having the lipase poured in. Our controlled variable is that of will be all different components. Amino acids and proteins are made basically of the components carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. Protein Amino Acid Amino Acid Each quality goes about as a code, or set of guidelines, for making a specific protein. They instruct the cell, give its attributes, and decide the manner in which its body works. Every protein has a novel arrangement of amino acids. This implies the number and request of amino acids is diverse for each sort of protein. The proteins overlap into various shapes. The various shapes and groupings give the proteins various capacities, e. g. keratin are a sinewy protein found in hair and nails. On the off chance that the quality has even the scarcest of turmoil inside its grouping it could prompt a mistaken request of ami no acids thus a broken protein or for our situation defective enzymes.Substrate fixation A catalyst has a functioning site where it ties the particle (or atoms) it follows up on; the compound at that point catalyzes a substance response including that atom (or those atoms). That atom (or those particles) is known as the protein's substrate. So the substrate focus is the grouping of the atoms a catalyst takes a shot at. It will keep on expanding until all proteins are effectively restricting substrate (called immersion), s o, all in all no further increment in rate can happen, regardless of how high you raise the substrate focus. In my examination concerning catalyst reaction to temperature this diagram will be of important. Less dynamic vitality so the response eases back down. This chart represents the reaction that pace of catalyst movement has at different temperatures. At lower temperatures the rate is low as there isn’t enough dynamic vitality for the chemical to work at its ideal, at that point you obviously have the proteins temperature ideal where the compound works best at.Finally you have the denaturing of the catalyst which in the end stops with the protein being totally denatured where it at that point will never have any movement. Impact Theory For a substance response to happen, the reactant particles must impact. In any case, crashes that need more vitality don't deliver a response. The particles must have enough vitality for the impact to be fruitful in creating a response. The pace of response relies upon the pace of effective impacts between reactant particles. So the less effective impacts that happens the less items made. Graph kindness of: ttp://www. worthington-biochem. com/introbiochem/tempeffects. html Diagram civility of: http://www. worthington-biochem. com/introbiochem/tempeffects. html The explanation with regards to why particles may have or might not have enough vitality to make items relies upon the measure of motor vitality in the particles. Thus why at lower temperatures the protein gets latent as there isn’t a sufficiently high temperature to make the vital motor vitality to make the items. As the temperature increments so does the rate which is because of increasing ly dynamic vitality and henceforth progressively effective crashes. H A compound can likewise denature upon extraordinary pHs. with the extraordinary pH’s being 1 and 14, the chemical would denature because of the hydrogen acids inside the pH’s harming the amino corrosive bonds inside the compound. By harming these bonds, the amino acids break separated, this thusly implies the enzyme’s dynamic site will lose its shape, bringing about the denaturing of the chemical. From now on, the ideal pH is in the pH range as nonpartisan pHs can't harm the obligations of the amino acids keeping the protein fit for reaction.Preliminary Method a. Sagging Pants Is Deviant Behavior Essay - 651 Words

A deviant behavior is a label attached to a person’s activity that is conducted in a manner outside the normalized zone of conformity within a society. There is the perception of how people view or understand certain demeanors. Next, a behavior may be considered illegal in the eyes of the law and it may also be viewed as immoral, unethical or inappropriate in the eyes of the people. Moreover, deviant behavior is conceptualized in the eyes of the public even when an act is not illegal. In my opinion, I think it’s just a matter of choice and how members of a society view such acts which are not criminalistic. I believe that sagging may be more predominant in lower classes such as college freshmen because they are just getting out of high school and may still be more involved in the trendy urban fashion statements. Next, in regards to sagging being used by upper level classmen such as seniors, I think that they would tend to use less of sagging pants because of their age and maturity level. In the same fashion, I believe school dropouts would tend to sag more than medical doctors because of the difference in professionalism. Abraham Lincoln s The Argument Against The War - 1182 Words

Destiny Hellyer Hist-1301 â€Å"Abraham Lincoln Condemns the War with Mexico, 1848† 1) What is Abraham Lincoln’s main argument against the war? When Lincoln was a Congressman in the House of Representatives, during his short term, he loudly opposed the Mexican war held in 1846. His main argument was that the war was unconstitutional and unnecessary and was based on a lie. He faced severe criticism from fellow Whigs including other congressmen for raising voice against the USA intervention in the Mexican territory and promotion of slavery there. This was against the popular President James Polk’s moves to acquire lands under USA control. Lincoln thought it was unjust and tyrannous. 2) What evidence does Lincoln use to support his anti-war argument? Lincoln believed that Polk had invaded Mexico based on a lie. So he questioned the President Polk’s intent of going to war which was based on Mexico crossing national borders in order to draw first blood in the US soil. He challenged Polk in the House floor to prove the claim of waging the Mexican war by providing evidence and facts in a fair and just manner. Lincoln emphasized that Polk should not resort to rhetoric, evasions, and arguments and should be precise and transparent in presenting the facts that led to the war. 1) Mexico was declared independent in 1821 following a series of revolts and political turmoil due to Spanish colonial rule. Discovery Essay free essay sample

Discovery is uncovering what is not known. The core text ‘Away’ written by Michael Gow and related text The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabrielle Muccino simply implies that every significant discovery brings change, growth, and strong relationships. The characters that are present in these two texts face conflict, and learn how to overcome their problems through their support of family and friends. Therefore, they are able to evolve as a person and although the texts differ in their contexts, they both illustrate discovery as a product of self-actualisation, and an appreciation for our environment. Away’ and The Pursuit of Happyness gives us an insight into how a character changes and grows as a person once they are faced with an obstacle. In ‘Away’, Coral is a woman who experiences the loss of her son during the Vietnam War. She believes in her mind that he will come back for her. You know what you’re becoming? Snide. A nasty, snide girl. No one likes a snide girl, always arguing. † Gwen is rude, and is not accepting her daughter for who she is, because she would like her to follow her rules. She is seen as dominating, and unknowing. This quote is an exaggerated quote. It is conveyed to the audience as Gwen exaggerating too much about the issues she has with Meg. In The Pursuit of Happyness, Chris Gardner is a man who struggles to support his family. As a result, his wife leaves him and his son to fend for themselves. â€Å"Hey. Dont ever let somebody tell you You cant do something. Not even me. All right? † This truncated sentence demonstrates that Chris loves his son, and does not want his son to go through the hardships he is faced with. He wants his son to work for his goals and achieve them. At the end of the film, Chris makes a connection with the audience when he says, â€Å"This part of my life this part right here? This is called ‘happiness. ’† after he had gained his stockbroker job. The long shot of his face conveys symbolism and creates an impact on the audience as he realises how far he has come on his journey to the discovery of his job, which ultimately makes him content with his life, revealing how discovery is a product of hard work and diligence. The characters in both texts discover how strong their relationships are with their families. In the phrase, â€Å"You worry too much. † The emotive language is emphasising that Meg’s mother needs to give her comfort instead of condemnation. In Tom’s family, there is his mother and father, Harry and Vic. Tom always bonded with his family, but when he is faced with Leukaemia, he does not know how his parents will react. At the end of the play, Tom recites a speech from King Lear and he mentions, â€Å"Unburden’d crawl toward death. † This is a descriptive quote which conveys that Tom has finite time, and won’t have the happy ending of others. The audience would convey this as having a relation to ‘Away’ because it explores the dilemma that Tom is faced in; how he will not be living for much longer. In The Pursuit of Happyness Chris maintains a strong relationship with his son and his wife. â€Å"You got a dream You gotta protect it. People cant do somethin themselves, they wanna tell you you cant do it. If you want somethin, go get it. Period. † This is a meaningful quote. It is interpreted in a way which tells us that Chris wants his son to aspire to the best level, and he also wants him to learn from his mistakes; that making mistakes is okay. By convincing his son what he needs to accept and achieve, Chris is able to maintain a strong relationship. ‘Away’ and The Pursuit of Happyness both complement each other when discovering strong relationships and the growth of oneself as a person after facing obstacles. The significance of how discovery can bring about change is evident in all the characters. They have different view points towards their life, but are able to discover how they change as a person. This therefore has an effect on how they develop as a character.

Things I Learned About Poisonous Snakes Essays - Snake,

things I learned about poisonous snakes POISONOUS SNAKES There are more than twenty-five hundred types of snakes in the world and only half of them will attack you under some circumstances. They will attack you if you run at them or try to hit them or some times they will not attack you at all. Not all snakes are human eaters. They may scare you even if they are not poisonous. There is a way to tell if they are poisonous or non poisonous by the colors on their back. There is a saying that goes ? If red touches yellow your a dead fellow, if red touches black your OK jack.? The second thing I learned about snakes is how they eat. Snakes have many different sizes' fangs that is where the poison is released from. The snake with the biggest fangs is on the viper. The weirdest thing is the python has such small fangs when it's such a big snake. The most poisonous snake is the sea snake that one lives in the ocean. I think it's cool how a snake eats because it swallows its prey whole by dislocating its jaw. It extends to swallow its victim. The way a snake catches its prey is by striking at it and then injects the poison into it, and a few minutes later the animal dies or is paralyzed. The snake smells it with its tongue and then does its thing. After it eats it does not need to have food for about 2 months. One other important thing, is that when an anaconda or other very big snakes eat it wraps its self around you or some kind of animal. They will squeeze you to death or until you pass out or die. They will then dislocate their jaw and swallow you whole. It will take about an hour to eat you it depends on the size of the body of the human or the animal. There are less than one thousand snake bites reported here in the United States. Here in the Southwest there are more rattle snakes than anywhere. If you are ever bitten by a snake, you should kill it and save it if you can. To be identified. Even after it's dead you should only touch it by its tale because the poison is still in its fangs. Another thing I learned about snakes is that they can be very friendly to you. There are many people that have snakes as pets. They are also taking a risk because they can bite and sometime strangled people. The ones that would be the safest for you are the non poisonous snakes. That was my book report on snakes

Recent Singapore History essays

Recent Singapore History essays Singapore, since it attained its independence on June 3, 1959, has been a thriving, trading nation. It had been controlled by the British, but after negotiations, was relinquished to self-autonomy with the understanding that it would remain a republic. Since then, it has reaffirmed its non-Communist stance and continued with progressive economic policies to the delight of the free world. Singapores modern history begins with its independence. It quickly drafted a Constitution, which called for a nine-member cabinet, drawn from the 51-member legislature, and a Prime Minister. An additional stipulation was that there had to be a Malay Head of State in the predominately Chinese population. In the first election, the PAP, or Peoples Action Party, won 43 seats in the legislature and its leader, Lee Kuan Yew, became Prime Minister. Sir William Goode, the former Governor, received the Malay position of Head of State. In 1961, Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman of Malay, proposed a closer cooperation between some of the Southeast Asian countries. Lee Kuan Yew supported this plan to have a central government that controlled defense, foreign affairs, and internal security. Backing for the merger was provided by a public referendum and on September 16, 1963, Malaysia, consisting of the Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak, and Northern Borneo, was established. Despite the overwhelming support for the merger, two years later, on August 9, 1965, Singapore withdrew from Malaysia. On September 21 of the same year, Singapore became a member of the United Nations. It also was joined into the Commonwealth of Nations on October 15. Singapore continued with the radical political changes and formed a republic on December 22 with Yusof bin Ishak as the first President. This struggling country with a myriad of races had now to restructure its economy and focus on its unsurpassed trading potential. Still in control, the predomina...

Why do you want to attend Pratt Essay Example for Free

Why do you want to attend Pratt Essay Having decided on a career early in life, I have always known that accomplishment of my professional goals would require the attendance of a quality art school that would offer me theoretical and practical foundation for a successful career. This is the reason why I chose Pratt and want to pursue a course at this school. In my conviction, the Pratt Institute in New York will offer me an excellent platform from which to move forward with my education and career goals. The rich history of the Pratt Institute that spans three very different centuries makes it interwoven with the history of art and design and helped the institute to build a strong academic program, which makes it attractive for people with a serious interest in design. I share the vision of the school’s founder, Charles Pratt, that a person who is true to one’s trade will eventually see this commitment pay off. On my part, I hope to apply the greatest effort to master the secrets of fashion design at Pratt so as to become a successful designer afterward able to leave an individual imprint on the history of fashion. Looking through pictures of models created by Pratt’s students on the institute’s website, I was impressed with the quality of their work. This strengthened my desire to attend courses at the school that teaches its students to produce work remarkable for innovation and quality. Besides, the location in New York City, an important center of fashion, is, in my opinion, a great advantage for am art school, as it gives students an opportunity to mix academic courses with first-hand experience of vibrant professional activity. I have long set my mind on a career in design. Since my childhood, I wanted no other career, being attracted by the fantastic world of designer clothing and the process of modelling. Fashion has riveted my attention for years. I regularly read professional periodicals devoted to this topic, trying to keep up-to-date with the news of the world of design. With the appearance of the Internet, I began to regularly browse a series of websites on design, such as www.dexigner.com, www.metrofashion-magazine.com and others. This helps me to stay abreast of the latest trends and search out the most valuable innovations in this field. To practise in the chosen area, I often draw fashion illustrations in an effort to put on paper various dreams and ideas about clothing. I hope that obtaining an education in fashion will help me realize these dreams on a more professional level and translate my ideas into mature, well-thought out collections. At this point in my life, I already have my future in fashion design mapped out, hoping that things will go according to the plans and I will be able to make all my ambitions come true. The start will be a Bachelor’s degree that I hope to obtain from the Pratt Institute that will provide me with the fundamental knowledge of fashion design and open the way to a professional career in design. As a next step, I plan to attend graduate school in Paris or London so as to improve my knowledge of this area in one of the world’s famous fashion capital. Combining this with the knowledge obtained in New York City, I hope to create my personal unique style that will be a combination of the best found in both Northern America and Europe. To crown my career, I want to create my own designer brand. This has to be a reflection of my personal style and world outlook, closely reflecting my own personality. At this point, I have a blueprint in mind as to what I want to do; however, it is still somewhat vague, and I hope, will become more definitive in the process of studying and working in this area. I feel the potential to become a great fashion designer, even if I am at the very start of my career. With an education from the Pratt Institute, I hope to realize my potential and to make my professional ambitions reality.

Legalization of Medicinal Marijuana Essay -- medical cannabis should be

In the U.S., cannabis sativa, also known as marijuana, is illegal for medicinal purposes only because the federal law places it in Schedule I, a category for drugs that have been deemed unsafe, highly subject to abuse, and possessing no medicinal value. After much scientific research, and investigations of evidence, this has been proven to be quite inaccurate. First of all, Judge Francis L. Young, concluded not only that marijuana’s medical utility had been adequately demonstrated, but also that marijuana had been shown to be â€Å"one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man† (â€Å"Medical Marijuana Briefing..). He also ruled that marijuana has legitimate medical applications and should be available to doctors.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Only eight people today receive marijuana through a federal â€Å"compassionate use† program which stopped admitting new patients in 1992, after the number of applications, mostly from AIDS patients, increased dramatically. Young also ruled that â€Å"†¦the provisions of the Controlled Substances Act permit and require the transfer of marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule II† (â€Å"Medical Marijuana Briefing†¦). As a Schedule II drug, marijuana would be allowed to be prescribed to patients by physicians, but only under highly regulated conditions.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known. No one has ever died from an overdose, and it has a wide variety of therapeutic applications s...

Nes China Case Study Essay

1. Chen was told by her former colleague, Zhu, to give RMB 3000 (US $360) to each of the two government officials. What would be the consequences of doing so for the involved parties and other relevant stakeholders? The core issue around this case is the major differences between Chinese and western ethical values. It is common, in most developed Western countries, for businesses and government officials to closely follow business rules and regulations that are straightforward and by the books. There is absolutely no room for working around any of them, without risking your reputation and ultimately your career. It is common for Western cultures to implement internal audits to make sure no violations to the rules exists. Regarding business practices, dinner parties are common, but expensive gift giving is seldom used in a business setting. On the other hand, in China, building strong relationships and trust is a huge factor involved in their business practices. It is preferable for Companies and government agencies to conduct business with groups their associated with, rather than outsiders. For the Chinese, giving gifts shows a sign of reciprocity between the two parties. It will be almost impossible for NES to built a strong relationship with the Chinese officials without understanding the basics of how they do business. As Chen, what would you suggest to Mueller? Why? As Chen, I would suggest creating a separate business code of conduct especially for the China region. Chen should suggest that NES should not continue to make business decisions based on Western values because China has their own set of unique business norms and cultural values. If they want to be successful in their business dealings in China they need to implement a new plan. They can start by informing the Representative office, especially Steinmann and Dr. Perrin, of the importance of gift giving in the Chinese culture. As stated in the China State Council Article 382 and 383 that gifts given in the amount less than RMB200 do not need to be handed over to the gift administrative department. Also, as long as those gifts are not given for securing illegitimate benefits they are not considered illegal. Therefore, it would be in the best interest of NES representative office to  implement a new established code of conducts for the Beijing office. This will help eliminate uncertainty of the rules and regulations that apply in NES dealings with China and create a business culture that is more diverse and applicable to China’s business culture.

Importance Of Corporate Social Responsibility On Todays...

Jait Shukla ENG W 131 Essay 2 Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility in Today’s Society Before five years, I came across a situation which led me to think about the importance and need of social responsibility by business enterprises. To start off giving a brief background, my brother was a fresh graduate from the school of architecture where he got his first individual contract in India. He had to design a mall that was planned to kick start after a few years. The land where it was being constructed belonged to an old age home. It was a well-known home for old people to spend their remaining years. Being his first project, my brother was really enthusiastic and gave all his hard work. Later, he got to know about the old age home that was present there. He and his team were in a quandary situation of whether or not to appeal to their company’s executive board to discuss this issue. On one hand, they were pressurized by the board to complete the project on time, as millions of equities were at stake. Whereas, on the other hand, they were feeling a sense of immoral behavior on their part. His team came up with a proposal that was designed to support both, the mall and the old age home by retaining a part of this property with the latter. The proposal was rejected, and my brother and his team withdrew from that project. This experience was narrated to me by my brother, which drew me towards the need of the business houses to be sensitive towards the society.
